| Florence Bernhard, The Tail Wagger's Club Owner, has been studying animal learning and memory for over fifteen years. She has done extensive research with every- thing from pigeons and doves to cats and dogs. Florence has been featured several times on NPR (National Public Radio) as their dog expert, as well as the focus of many newspaper and magazine articles about Therapy Dog work and Animal Behavior. Florence started The Tail Wagger's Club almost a decade ago to help people understand their dogs better and improve their bond to create a harmonious, lifelong relationship. A well-trained dog understands what is expected of him and will therefore make a much happier, healthier companion. Too many dogs are hit by cars each year because they do not know the simple, but very important *come* command. We can work together to ensure that your dog will remain safe and healthy for many years to come. Our training philosophy is positive; if training is not fun, something is going wrong! When we focus on and reward animals for behavior that is appropriate, those behaviors continue and the unwanted ones begin to disappear. It is that simple! The Tail Wagger's Club's main focus is on family dog obedience, but Florence is also partnered with Paws with a Cause, a service dog training agency based in Michigan. She trains dogs to perform very specialized behaviors that help create independence in the lives of people with disabilities. With time and patience, your dog can learn some of these unique skills too! Florence has a BA in Psychology with a focus on Animal Learning, is a certified pet dog trainer (CPDT), is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), member of the Animal Behavior Society (ABS), member of Therapy Dogs International (TDI), a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) evaluator for the American Kennel Club (AKC), and owns and certifies Therapy Dogs. |
